• Marten and Starwood checking in from Japan

Greetings from Japan!!  We are in Tokyo and we couldn't be more excited. After a 12 hour flight and 2 1/2 hours in Tokyo rush traffic (and I thought LA traffic was bad!!) we have finally settled in at the hotel. Our record label took us out for some unbelievable Sushi, Sake and Japanese Beer at a true authentic Japanese eatery where you had to take off your shoes and sit on the floor, what an awesome first day!! We are all huge fans of the movie "Lost in Translation" and we saw a bunch of the locations they used in the movie, such a blast!! Our first show is in about 11 hours and I hear it's sold out, I can't wait. More to come!! Read More>

  Bass player Marten Andersson is announcing a new relationship with Michael Kelly acoustic basses. The highly acclaimed rock band "Starwood" recently released their debut record "if it ain't broke, break it!" worldwide on Metalblade Records, with a video for the song "Subculture" that is gathering airplay around the World.   The Los Angeles based hardrock outfit Legacy founded by bass ace Marten Andersson (LIZZY BORDEN/STARWOOD/GEORGE LYNCH) has inked a deal to have the Legacy debut CD re-mastered with new art work, bonus tracks as well as future releases through this agreement.

• NAMM Show Appearance
    
  Marten (Starwood, George Lynch, Lizzy Borden, Legacy) will attend the ESP Guitar and EMG booths among others at the NAMM music tradeshow on January 20-23 at the Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.  Marten will be hanging out with his band mates in Starwood and talking with people about his gear. Starwood complete first video for the song (Subculture) from their debut release If it aint broke, break it!

The video for subculture represents all of the attitude from ‘If it aint broke, break it!’ straight up, faster then the eye can see visions of Hollywood. From the clubs to the streets, this is the ‘first look’ of what the song subculture and the band Starwood is all about.

 “We were born and raised here. When we were looking for a concept for this video we soon realized we didn’t need one, we already live in one. Hollywood is the greatest concept there is. We just pointed a camera at it and pulled the trigger! Everything that song has to say lyrically was at the other end of that camera. This was just a postcard from our backyard to the rest of the world” states Lizzy, lead singer for the band.

Final editing of the video was completed just as Starwood came back from Japan in time for the show at the House of Blues Sunset Strip with UFO on November 15th. Note: this is an early show

Band Prepares for Shows with UFO & Vince Neil as First Video, "Subculture," Nears Completion. Starwood fans are about to get the big "break" they deserve: the Metal Blade recording artists have confirmed they will begin a world tour for their label debut, If It Ain’t Broke, Break It! in their hometown—Hollywood, California—on November 15, sharing the bill at the House of Blues Sunset Strip with the legendary UFO. The next day, Starwood is off to the U.K. for a series of dates with Vince Neil. The tour announcement comes just as Starwood is shooting the first video from If It Ain’t Broke, Break It! According to vocalist/guitarist Lizzy, who produced the recording with band mate Joey Scott (drums & percussion/backing vocals), the song, "Subculture," is an invitation to those who will never be in the elite of society to join Starwood and others like them in the subculture of Hollywood.

 

The video mixes performance footage with scenes celebrating the Hollywood scene Starwood celebrates in their music. "Subculture" is just one of several tracks on If It Ain’t Broke, Break It! garnering nationwide airplay and favorable notices. Others include "All My Girlfriends Have Boyfriends," "What’s Your Damage" and "Backlash."

 

"A simply entertaining disc of high octane pop metal material…Starwood plays it like it is with songs that…kick you in the ass and might even get your head banging," states the Music Connection, adding: "This is an album for anyone who kneels before the Gods for the return of carefree arena rock." According to Metal Edge, Starwood "leans heavily to ‘70s era icons like KISS, Cheap Trick and New York Dolls, but they pummel forth in a very sleazier version of the above. The production is very raw yet polished in all the right spots making it a very strong rock record." Crave claims If Ain’t Broke, Break It! boasts "an impressive old school rock feel" and hopes Starwood is "the band that brings back those Hollywood rock bands that got swept away so many years ago," while Metal Invader comes right to the point: "simple ‘70s-style, goodtime RNR, glamy, sleazy and filthy as hell, catchy, full of simple hooks and driving rhythms with attitude that kicks ya in the face."

Lizzy says he chose to name the band after the famed ‘70s Hollywood club because the Starwood was where fans started seeing metal, but the venue continued to host shows by rock, pop and punk bands, all elements that can be heard in the band’s music. Along with Lizzy and Joey Scott, Starwood features Marten Andersson on bass and backing vocals and Joe Steals on lead rhythm and slide guitars and backing vocals. Starwood is planning an extensive tour for the new year.

  Metallic Archangel Records is putting together a "true metal" tribute to LIZZY BORDEN, entitled "Baptized in Blood". Bands confirmed to appear on the CD so far are FAITH FACTOR (featuring DEADLY BLESSING vocalist Ski), MYSTIC FORCE and BLACK WIDOW. Other acts currently in talks about contributing to the album include TWISTED TOWER DIRE, ICARUS WITCH and TWILIGHT ODYSSEY. • Lizzy Borden guitarist Alex Nelson dies in a head-on collision

Guitarist Alex Nelson from the infamous Heavy Metal Band LIZZY BORDEN died in a head-on collision the afternoon of May 17, 2004 in Los Angeles, California.  "Alex will be truly missed by all that had the gift of his friendship. We shall miss him dearly, as he was just starting his new life with his wife Angel Nelson. They were living their dream life together only to end in a heartbreaking tragedy. Send any condolences to josephh610@hotmail.com, it  will be passed on to his family. From Marten: I am in shock, as you might have heard our dear friend and fellow Lizzy Borden guitar player Alex (Nelson) passed away.  This is really tough to handle, when you spend so much time with someone  there is no easy way around this for anybody. I loved the guy, we will all miss him very very much. My condolences go out to his wife Angel and the family.

Bassplayer Marten Andersson Joins George Lynch for another tour     As you might have heard I am hitting the road with guitar maestro George Lynch again. This time for a longer North American Tour (with Y. Malmsteen). George has made some changes to the band. The line up for this tour is: George Lynch - Guitars (Dokken/Lynch Mob), Me - Bass,  Kelly Keeling - Vocals (Baton Rouge, Blue Murder, MSG, John Norum) and Jeff Martin - Drums (Racer X, Badlands, UFO). Some heavy hitters there!! It will be a lot of fun.  I will post another update as the rehearsals and tour gets on it's way!!

  Legacy isn’t your average hard rock band. Although the musicianship on this CD is potent and skilled, the vocalist Chris Roseberry is the bands most lethal instrument.
